Wheaton’s Arthur Holmes both encouraged and facilitated my going on in Philosophy.  The writings of the late University of Michigan Professor of Philosophy, William Frankena, have been very helpful to me over the years — especially the general model for normative philosophies of education as set forth in his Three Historical Philosophies of Education, Scott, Foresman.

“Daring Proposal” reflects an important comment made by the late Northwestern University Professor of Philosophy – Robert Browning – during a visit to Wheaton.  He said that he was more confident that murder is wrong than that God exists.  “Daring Proposal” emphasizes educating for a world where people mindfully heed that pair of ancient imperatives, not for a world that’s religiously uniform.
